According to data shared by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ford Motor Company has dealt with the most recalls on their products with a total of 545 safety recalls since 2010. This year marks the fourth consecutive year that Ford has taken the top spot for most recalls. The issues with Ford’s vehicles often come from the power trains, electrical systems, airbags, and other components. Though Ford’s number of recalls is the highest among all companies and may reveal a deeper recurring problem, their willingness to issue recalls voluntarily shows a desire and intention to improve on behalf of their consumers.
Forest River, best known for recreation vehicles and trailers, is a close second for most safety recalls with 527 recalls under them. 262 of these involve the equipment in their vehicles, accounting for nearly half of all Forest River recalls. The reason for this is unsurprising: since RVs are large and complex, there is a greater chance that something will go wrong throughout the various components that make up the entire vehicle.
Chrysler, also known as Stellantis after a recent merger of PSA Group and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in 2021, has had 514 safety recalls since 2010. Some of Chrysler’s common issues arise from the airbags, electrical systems, and power trains of their vehicles.
Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) is the largest heavy-duty truck manufacturer in North America. Out of all safety recalls since 2010, 465 belong to DTNA. The majority of these safety recalls have dealt with the electrical systems of their trucks, though other issues like steering control loss and engine failure have also been the reason behind many of them.
Coming in fifth place, General Motors has often had problems with their airbags and electrical systems, with 137 of their 451 recalls involving these components. As a whole, General Motors recalls have decreased in recent years, even as the number of vehicles sold has gone up.
