Star Wars lore tells us there have been over five hundred sabers. They’re one of the most recognizable and beloved weapons in the world of science fiction. The team at PixlParade gives us a full tour of every on-screen appearance of a lightsaber in the Star Wars films and television shows. From Luke Skywalker’s iconic blue to the rarest and most obscure of sabers, the team has assembled them all.
The team divided the sabers by color, which include: blue, green, orange, yellow, purple, red, black, and white. Blue lightsabers are the most common, a tool of the Jedi Knights. The infamous Skywalker saber was blue. After it was created by Anakin Skywalker, who became the dreaded Sith Lord, Darth Vader, it was passed to his son, Luke, and eventually fell into the hands of Rey.
Green sabers have their moments to shine too, wielded by Master Yoda. Eventually, Luke creates a new blade that takes on a green color. The green saber represents a harmonious and soul-deep connection to the Force. As for yellow sabers, these blades are rare. The most famous example might be Rey’s salvaged blade. They are said to represent a wielder who balances intelligence and fighting prowess, using the Force in unique ways.
As for orange sabers, we see some Sith take on these blades, like Baylan Skill, the mercenary, and Darth Bane, who wielded a pike-shaped orange saber. The purple saber trend kicked off with Jedi Mace Windu, played by Samuel L. Jackson. This saber color has a simple backstory: Jackson requested it! He must have felt purple vibed the most with his character’s Force powers.
Red sabers are always bent toward the Dark side of the Force. The red color occurs when Siths bend the saber to their will, causing the Kyber crystal to create the bleeding red color. Ahsoka Tano introduced us to white lightsabers after she purified a tainted Kyber crystal. That leaves us with the rarest saber, the Darksaber. This ancient blade is one-of-a-kind, created by the Mandalorian Tarre Vizsla, who turned Jedi.
