A History of Brain Damage in the NFL

In June 2012, more than 2000 former NFL players came together in the biggest sports lawsuit ever against the league. We decided to dig into the claims made in the lawsuit and found some really interesting facts and statistics regarding brain damage in the NFL:

  • Football comes in second place to cycling in terms of emergency room-related injuries (85.4 vs. 46.9 per year)
  • 60% of NFL players suffer a concussion while 26% suffer three or more concussions.
  • Once a player suffers a concussion, they are 400% more likely to suffer a second one.
