Social media empower patients. It allows them to communicate effectively and have access to all kinds of information. Active use of social media by health care institutions can further speed up communication and information provision to patients.
A study found that Western European Hospitals increasingly use Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn. The authors foresee great opportunities to improve healthcare and stimulate participatory healthcare.
