Obama Wins Re-election 2012 ‘The best is yet to come’

In 2012 Obama wins a second term as President of the United States

After a long and sometimes bitter campaign, Barack Obama was re-elected in 2012 as the 44th President of the United States on Tuesday night. With more than 66 million votes cast, Obama victory represented a stunning comeback for a politician who was once considered to be politically vulnerable. Obama’s victory also marked the first time since Franklin D. Roosevelt that an incumbent president was re-elected to a second term in office.

The numbers: Obama won 303 electoral votes to 206 for Romney

President Barack Obama was re-elected in 2012 with 332 electoral votes to Mitt Romney’s 206. Obama led in both popular and electoral vote counts from the beginning of the race, but it was a close battle until late in the game.

The economy remained one of Obama’s biggest strengths throughout the campaign – his credibility with voters was largely based on his track record as president. However, Romney also made a strong case that he would be a better leader for America’s future by highlighting his business experience.

The swing states: Obama won Ohio, Florida, and Virginia

In the 2012 election, incumbent president Barack Obama won three key swing states- Ohio, Florida, and Virginia. This was a huge upset to Republican candidate Mitt Romney, who had expected to win all three. The swing states are important because they have a large number of electoral votes and can go either way in an election. In order to win the election, a candidate must win at least 270 out of 538 electoral votes.
