Keeping an Eye on Growing Supplement Industry

Learn the supplement industry inside and out as its nutritional complexity deepens! Now pioneered by field experts, the growing vitamin industry is being shaped by these minds. Supplements of all kinds take center stage with 60% of the worldwide population who take vitamins daily.

The overwhelming growth of the supplement industry is projected to continue to rise in the coming years. In 2021, the supplement market hit a record growth at a CAGR of 14.5%. Global health factors such as increased mortality rates, an aging population, and an at-risk global population caused the supplement business to grow. The health risks that arose during the COVID-19 pandemic also caused a rise in the supplement industry with a rise in household vitamin sales to 90%, and all ages and regions of the US showing a 74-75% use of supplements.

Supplements do not always mean pre-workout powders and capsules. In fact, American adults consumed only 28% sports nutrition supplements in the past 12 months compared to 76% vitamins and 40% specialty supplements.

Scientific backing for vitamins also fosters increased consumer confidence in products. Vitamins have been proven to slow the rate of brain shrinkage, improve physiological, cognitive, and functional outcomes, reduce injuries and improve performance during workouts. Some of the experts behind new supplement developments are Dr. Banafsheh Bayati, one of the three founders of Perelel, the first and only OB/GYN-founded vitamin company, Ernesto Sigmon, founder and CEO of Black Edged, LLC, a 100% black-owned company that scientifically formulated supplements for the health needs of black people, and Dr. Uma Naidoo, a faculty member at Harvard Medical School and Director of Nutrition & Lifestyle Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital.

The growing industry of supplements is one to be sure you know inside and out. New categories of supplements are anticipated to enter the scene in the future, so keeping an eye on the vitamin and supplement world can be beneficial.
