Apple brings in nearly $400 billion each year. Think about how huge that number is. Think about just how many cell phones and computers that is. It’s mind-boggling. Their success has certainly been historic. And along with that success, Apple has been able to buy a large number of companies over the years which has led to the technology giant growing even faster. In fact, Apple has purchased a total of 114 companies to date.
Interestingly, the actual list of companies that Apple owns, if you were to look right now, might look a lot smaller than you would have guessed, and there’s a good reason for that. Where have all of those 114 companies gone? Many companies that Apple purchases are immediately implemented into their existing technology and services rather than remaining their own independent companies. Some great examples of this include Siri, which was integrated into their mobile operating system, and Face ID, which actually originated as its own company called PrimeSense. One interesting acquisition is Beats Electronics, also known as Beats by Dre, the headphone, audio, and music company that was co-founded by Dr. Dre which was sold to Apple for a whopping $3.2 Billion in 2014.
Another notable acquisition is Shazam. Shazam is an app that helps its users identify music live. All you need to do is hit the record button on the app, and within seconds, the name of the song and artist is returned.
