Rating American Homes by Cleanliness
The team at Oxi Fresh set out to develop a method for rating the cleanliness of homes across the United States. While cleanliness can be subjective in many ways, the team created a comprehensive survey to create the Oxi Fresh Home Cleanliness Index. This scoring system is based on the survey answers given. First, the survey asked respondents to score their home’s cleanliness on a scale of 1 to 10. Next, a series of five questions asked homeowners how often they performed specific chores, like vacuuming, mopping, cleaning the bathroom, changing linens, and deep cleaning carpets. They also asked respondents to rate the level of clutter in their homes and how they’d feel about unexpected guests seeing their homes in their current state. Lastly, they asked if respondents had hired professional cleaners.
The scores showed that these states are the cleanest:
1. Wyoming
2. Delaware
3. Rhode Island
4. Kansas
5. Iowa
6. Idaho
7. Minnesota
8. Arkansas
9. Connecticut
10. Tennessee
Wyoming residents had the cleanest homes, and they know it! 96% of Wyoming respondents said they’d be proud to show off their home to unexpected guests.
As for the states with the lowest scores, these were at the bottom of the ranking:
1. New Hampshire
2. North Carolina
3. Maryland
4. Maine
5. Oregon
6. Oklahoma
7. Hawaii
8. North Dakota
9. Washington
10. Utah
These residents also gave themselves the lowest scores and were the most embarrassed to have guests see their homes. Maybe residents in these states are being a little too modest, unintentionally lowering their scores. However, when the index included the number of times cleaning tasks were performed, the Oxi Fresh team seems to have created a reliable scoring system.
