The Countries with the Most Anxiety-Stricken Populations

It is estimated that more than 280 million people around the world are living with anxiety disorders. These disorders are generally described as prolonged periods or episodes of intense worry. For people with conditions like generalized anxiety disorder, separation anxiety, and social anxiety disorder, living with anxiety can greatly impact their home and professional lives. Thankfully there are treatment options available, but nevertheless, learning to live with (and thrive) with anxiety can be a challenge.

The researchers at Charlotte’s Web took a look at recent available data on each country’s share of people with anxiety disorder to determine the most anxious countries around the world

These are the 10 countries that rank highest on the list along with their anxiety rate:

  1. Portugal: 8.79
  2. New Zealand: 8.04
  3. Brazil: 7.77
  4. Iran: 7.62
  5. Ireland: 7.62
  6. Switzerland: 7.49
  7. Netherlands: 7.45
  8. Norway: 7.30
  9. Northern Ireland: 7.07

Anxiety can come in many forms, but these are some of the most common anxiety disorders that people may be diagnosed with:

  • Generalized anxiety disorder
  • Panic disorder
  • Specific phobias
  • Social anxiety disorder
  • Separation anxiety disorder

Some symptoms of anxiety can include an intense feeling of worry, restlessness, shortness of breath, irritability, sleep issues, and more. These symptoms may make it difficult to work or maintain relationships. There are many treatment options available for those with anxiety disorders. While there is no cure for anxiety, there are many options that can help reduce the symptoms. Therapy and medication are popular options for many, and some say that exercise, meditation, and holistic options can help reduce feelings of anxiety. Anyone who is experiencing symptoms of anxiety should consult with their healthcare provider to discuss what options may help reduce symptoms.
