In 2021 alone, it’s estimated that approximately 42,915 people died in motor vehicle accidents, per the National Highway Safety Administration. This was a major jump from the year prior at an increase of 10.5%, making it the largest number of fatalities on the road since 2005. Not only that, but it was the largest annual percentage increase in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.
Which vehicles out there on the market are ultimately the safest and will help reduce your risk of being involved in a fatal accident on the road?
From the team at Alan’s Factory Outlet comes this fascinating infographic that looks at what the safest new and used vehicles are, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It includes vehicles of all different types, including small cars, midsize cars, midsize luxury cars, large cars, large luxury cars, small SUVs, midsize SUVs, midsize luxury SUVs, large SUVs and minivans, with models shown for both new and used vehicles.
According to this, SUVs may certainly be the safest option for families, with the best small SUV options being vehicles like the Chevrolet Trailblazer, Ford Bronco Sport, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Hyundai Tucson, and Mazda CX-30. As for safe midsize SUV options, one may want to look at vehicles like the Ford Explorer, Hyundai Palisade, Hyundai Santa Fe, Mazda CX-9, and Nissan Murano. Lastly, the safest luxury SUV options would be the Acura MDA, Acura RDX, Audi Q5, Audi Q5 Sportback, and Cadillac XT6.
Surprisingly, when it comes to used cars, you may want to look at some older options out there, specifically vehicles like the 2014-15 Ford C-Max Hybrid, a 2014 (or newer) Mazda 3, a 2014 Chevrolet Volt, or a 2015 Subaru Impreza.
